FIRST!

Visiting the Uncle Sam probably just a dream for most people, but there is no mistakes of having dreaming right? That's what I'm experiencing now. Right here, in Appleton, Wisconsin, that dream became a reality.

About 2 months ago, I got my first step in Washington DC, U.S. All seems different. 12-hour time difference between Indonesia and the United States make all feel weird, that's the jet lack.
I was picked up by a welcoming family (Gill Family) in Appleton Airport. They gave me good first
impression. They even gave me warm hug on that our first meet. Then, we go to the house to my
residence for one week to the next. After I got home, I got my first dinner with welcoming family. I
was totally surprised because they prepared yellow rice for my first dinner. They purposely bought me yellow rice instant because it is my favorite food. I am very happy because my welcoming family was so kind and friendly.

I spent a fun time with my welcoming family. They invited me to go to many interesting places. I still
remembered when my host mom (Marcia) and my host sister (Hannah) asked me to go to amusement
park. We tried a variety of exciting rides, such as Roller Coaster, Ferris wheel, and much more.
Moreover, my host mom bought the big ice cream for me and Hannah. I was so excited and happy on
that day.My host sister (Hannah and Sarah) also took me shopping to the mall. That is the first mall I visited in Appleton. They also invited me to watch the movie 'Red 2'. Actually I do not like the movie, but I enjoyed the fun time with my host sisters. They showed a lot of fun things of America.

Another interesting thing was sailing. Honestly, I have never had sailing, so, this is the first time I tried sailing. My host dad took me sailing with grandma and grandpa. They have a private boat which is pretty cool. We sailed for about 1 hour till the wind blows so hard that we had to get back to the mainland. Despite unfavorable weather, I still feel happy because I just tried new thing which was very interesting.

One week has passed, I had to move to a new family (Graf family). They are also very friendly. In this new family, I have a sister who is incredible. I spend a lot of time with him. We are both following extracurricular tennis.

Tennis did seem odd to me. I have never played tennis before, but I like to try new experience.
Therefore, I follow tennis. The first time I had practice, I feel like the most stupid player. It felt very
strange by holding tennis racket. However, I have a very good coach. He patiently taught me from
scratch. I also find a lot of new friends in tennis. I join tennis before school start.

This is the day that I was waiting- the first day of school. It feels very proud to set foot in an American school, but to be honest, I was a little scared because that was the day where I would start my journey for 1 year ahead. After convincing myself, I went straight to class. Because I am not used to moving class and all feels new, I had trouble a few times to find a class. I lost twice, but a lot of friends helped me find the class. I was grateful for that day because I find a lot of new friends who are very friendly. That’s all what l feel for ‘first time' in America. I experienced so many things here. I know this is only the beginning of my journey. I hope I can got more experiences which l never had before. I also hope for my great year in America.
